So - what makes the traveling feeling even greater than imagining arriving to the lovely Madrid again? The feeling of GRADUATING!! Not having anything to do in the university anymore! Because just moments before going out of the school on 14.May, to catch the plane, I printed out the final final, final version of the Bachelor Thesis, signed it, and submitted it to the library. And with this, I was officially free as a bird for the trip to the South ;)
Of course I missed the bus to the airport :) Luckily the next one wasn't far, and I (unlike the usual no-spare-time policy) had planned more than enough time before the departure. Stressless :)
After landing in Frankfurt Hahn airport - RyanAir routes use this connection - I made the information table ladies happy. Apparently, it had been a long time since they had advised someone with 26 HOURS of free time between flights :) So, the options were basically Luxembourg, Trier, and Mainz. Some other not too interesting cities as well - and I didn't actually want to travel to another big city before arriving to the metropolis of Madrid :)
Luxembourg would have been positive because I could have added another visited country to my European countries list. From the downside, the trip there was rather expensive - 35 EUR for the return ticket - and it was 2 hours for both trips..
Trier - had received an official suggestion from the most serious legal advisor in Riga :) And it was also the oldest city in Germany, and not that far, neither too expensive. So the reasonable thing would have been to visit Trier...
But who cares about reasonable anyway.
So - I took a bus to Mainz. A rather small town (about 200 000 inhabitants :) which had a university with about 35 000 students, as I found out later. So the instincts took me to the correct place :)
Instincts over reason - wouldn't have thought that I would ever do that :) Is my (in)famous (excessive) rationalism finally giving me a break? :P
It's different to travel alone - you just have to dive into the locals, because you don't have a friend with you to discuss or plan stuff. Many interesting people related to the short trip to Mainz. I had a chat on the bus with Kim, a girl who had just returned from Ireland after visiting her bf, and going back to Nurnberg. We took a nice photo of a guy sitting/sleeping on the seat next to us.
